Editions and catalogues

Every list belongs to an edition, and every edition needs its catalogue on the device. This chapter shows how to switch editions and how to download, update and remove catalogues.

Switching the edition

At the top of the Army lists column stands the Edition field. A click opens the editions of the active game system; a choice loads its catalogue and switches. The same field stands under Options › General. When a system has only one edition, the field is not there.

The main view: at the top left the “Edition” field with “11th Edition”, below it the “Army lists” column with the lists of that edition.
  1. Switches the edition of the active game system.
  • Lists belong to an edition: The column shows only the lists of the loaded edition. The others stay saved and come back when you pick their edition.
  • Only downloaded editions: The field offers the editions whose catalogue is on the device. The one exception is Combat Patrol: it can always be picked, and if you pick it without its catalogue, the application asks before it downloads it. Cancel loads nothing, and the edition stays as it was.
  • Failure: When the new catalogue cannot be loaded, the previous edition stays active.

You switch the game system in the options, see Switching the game system.

The data sources

Under Options › Data sources there is a row for each edition of the active game system. It names the state of the catalogue, its revision, its size, when it was downloaded and how many of your lists belong to that edition.

  • Download fetches a catalogue that is not on the device yet. Only then can the edition be picked.
  • Update appears when there is a newer revision and replaces the catalogue with it.
  • Remove deletes the catalogue from the device, see Removing catalogues.
Options, Data sources section: rows for Combat Patrol, Kill Team and the 11th Edition, each downloaded with revision, size, date and number of lists; the 11th Edition with the hint that it cannot be removed; below, the 10th, 9th and 8th Edition, not downloaded, with the “Download” button.
  1. The catalogue of the active edition: downloaded, cannot be removed.
  2. An edition without a catalogue; “Download” fetches it.

Older editions carry the hint that their display may be incomplete. Below the rows the application names the folder that holds the catalogues.

New catalogue revisions

The catalogues are maintained by their authors all the time. The application never downloads a new revision on its own, though, only when you want it to.

  • Check catalogues for updates below the rows of the data sources asks, for every downloaded catalogue, whether a newer revision exists. Nothing is downloaded.
  • The application does not ask by itself: With a catalogue on the device it does not go online on start or when you switch the edition. You see a new revision only after the check, on the row marked Update available.
  • Downloading: Only Update in the row downloads the new revision.

Removing catalogues

Remove in a row deletes the catalogue of that edition from the device.

  • The catalogue of the active edition cannot be removed. Its row says so.
  • Confirmation: When lists belong to the edition, the confirmation names how many.
  • Your lists stay: They stay saved, but only come back once you download the catalogue again.

Where the catalogues come from

The catalogues come from public data collections, mostly from the repositories of the BSData community. Which sources are possible is fixed in the application. You cannot enter an address of your own.

The application claims no licence for this data. Who holds the rights to the games is stated under Options › Legal.
