Getting started

Your first list in 10 minutes

In this chapter you build a list from scratch: create it, add a unit, configure it, read the points and save the datasheets as a PDF. The example is a Necrons list of the 11th Edition.

Create the list

  1. Choose New list at the bottom of the army lists. The layer Create a new army list opens.
  2. Choose the main faction, here Xenos, then the faction, here Necrons. The application suggests a name from faction and points limit until you type one of your own.
  3. Choose a detachment, here Awakened Dynasty. In the 11th Edition you pay for detachments out of a budget; whatever exceeds it can no longer be ticked.
  4. Where the catalogue asks for a Force Disposition, choose it beside the detachments.
  5. The points limit stands on the right: one of the presets or a free value. If the field stays empty, the list has no limit.
  6. Choose Create.
The layer “Create a new army list”: main faction Xenos and beside it the faction Necrons, detachment Awakened Dynasty ticked, beside it the Force Disposition, the points limit from the presets, at the bottom the “Create” button.
  1. The name, suggested from faction and points limit.
  2. The faction decides the catalogue.
  3. The detachments with their cost out of the budget.
  4. The Force Disposition, where the catalogue asks for one.
  5. “Create” creates the list and opens it.

Everything about creating, the points limit and the list settings is in Create and manage a list.

Add a unit

The new list is open and still empty. The catalogue beside it shows what the Necrons offer, grouped by category. Mark Necron Warriors under Battleline and choose Add selected unit — or double-click the entry.

The new, empty list on the right; in the catalogue in the middle Necron Warriors is marked, below it the “Add selected unit” button.
  1. The catalogue: the marked unit with its price.
  2. “Add selected unit” takes it into the list.
  3. The open list, still without units.

Right after creating, the list's validation reports what is still missing, for instance that no warlord is chosen. The messages go away once the list meets the catalogue's rules.

Search, filters and the rest of the catalogue are in Add and configure units.

Configure the unit

Mark the unit in the list and choose the pencil, or double-click it. The unit detail opens: on the left you set model count and wargear as far as the catalogue allows, on the right stand the profiles with characteristics, weapons and abilities. At the bottom left stands the unit's price as you have just configured it.

The unit detail of Necron Warriors: model count and wargear on the left, the profile with characteristics and weapons on the right, the “Save” button at the bottom.
  1. Configuration: model count, enhancements, wargear and options.
  2. The unit's datasheet, as you configure it.
  3. “Save” takes the configuration into the list.

Option groups, rows of a model and notes are explained in The unit detail.

Read the points

The points stand at the top of the open list: the total against the limit, a bar, a plaque, and beside it how many units and models the list holds. When the list goes over its limit, the plaque turns to Limit exceeded, and the validation says how many points are too many.

This is what a finished list looks like, the sample list The Wakened Dynasty:

The finished sample list “The Wakened Dynasty”: the points within the limit at the top, the units by category below.
  1. The points bar; above it total, limit and the plaque “Within limit”.
  2. The units of the list, sorted by category, with their points.

What the findings of the check mean and how to fix them is in The list check.

Datasheets as a PDF

Choose Datasheets in the open list. In the layer Datasheets (PDF) you choose which units go into the PDF; a unit that stands in the list more than once appears only once. In the middle you see the pages, on the right you set colours and template. Export as PDF asks where to save.

The layer “Datasheets (PDF)”: the units with ticks on the left, the preview of the first page in the middle, the styling on the right, “Export as PDF” at the bottom.
  1. Which datasheets go into the PDF.
  2. Styling: template and colours.
  3. “Export as PDF” saves the file.

What a datasheet shows and how to save templates of your own is covered in Datasheets and PDF.

Where to go next

You have now created a list, filled it, checked it and put it out. The chapters under Building lists go further. The overview shows everything there is already.
